Hello everyone

I'm trying to find some information on a family that lived in a small place called Dunganstown, in the far west of Wexford, around 1900 - 1910.  The parents were John Murphy & Bridget Flynn.  John & Bridget married in 1897 and had 7 children: John (b.1899), James (b.1901), Thomas (b.1902), Mary (b.1903), Anastasia (b.1905), Bridget (b.1907) and Mathew (b.1909).  Most of the children were born in Dunganstown.  John & Bridget + the two oldest children are listed in the 1901 census, and the whole family is listed in the 1911 Census but this time living in Little Robinstown near Old Ross, about 10 km to the northeast of Dunganstown.  I know James married a girl called Annie O'Brien in 1922 in Cushinstown Church and I know Thomas moved to Wales in the late 1920's and married twice there, but that's the only hard evidence I have.  If anyone knows what happened to the rest of the family, I'd be grateful to find out.  I am particlarly interested in any information on the oldest daughter, Mary (b.1903).

Thanks, Andrew

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Can I suggest that you search the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie for civil marriage and death records for the children that you do not know where they went. The registration district would be New Ross assuming the family stayed in the general area of Little Robinstown. For example I searched for civil marriage records for an Anastasia Murphy and found one in 1927 which is a possible record. All civil marriage records which are available until 1944 show the name of the fathers of the bride and groom. Therefore any record with a father other than John Murphy can be disregarded. This 1927 record shows an Anastasia Murphy a servant in New Ross marrying a Michaekl Dunne. Her father was John Murphy. Second record on the page

Civil death records are available until 1969 so you may find the records for John and Bridget and any of their children who may have died young. Unfortunatley, the surname Murphy will complicate your search.

  • Hello everyone

I am trying to locate the descendants of Michael Joseph Dunne (b.16 Aug 1900, New Ross) & Anastasia Murphy (b.22 Mar 1905, New Ross).  Michael & Anastasia married in 1927 (New Ross) and had four children: Thomas (b.1930), John (1936), Kieran (1940) and Elizabeth (aka Betty, b.1943).  All four children were born in County Wexford. John passed away in 2015 and is buried in St Ibar's Cemetry, Crosstown.  Thomas became a Salesian priest and passed away in 2016.  He is also buried in St Ibar's Cemetry, Crosstown.  According to Thomas' obituary, his younger brother Kieran and sister Betty both attended his funeral.  If anyone knows Betty or Kieran (or any of their descendants), I would very much like to speak to them if possible about their mother Anastasia Murphy.

    Thanks
