Alice Murphy left Co. Wicklow for New York in 1899 and married Otto Rudolph there in 1904.

Her sister Mary joined her there in 1907,leaving her home in Co. Down where here mother was a midwife.

Mary Murphy married Thomas or Timothy Walsh around 1910.The Walshes lived in Manhattan.Thomas was a building supervisor.They had a daughter Margaret in about 1911.

In the 1930 Us census the family are living on West 94th Street.

Did Margaret Walsh ever marry and have a family of her own?

I think her father may have been originally from Limerick. The Murphys were originally from Louth.

I would love to find any decendents of Margaret Walsh.

  • Hi, I don't know if Margaret ever returned to Ireland as an adult but I am guessing she did not

    As a child of ten years Margaret Walsh did actually sail to Ireland with her mother to visit her grandmother Mrs O'flaherty in Newcastle Co Down.I have a family photo of that occasion .Mrs O'flaherty was the local district nurse and was married to Bill and had a son Billy.

    I tried to find Margaret  on the 1940 US census and I did find a married lady called Margaret McCann  living with her mother Mary Walsh .No children or husband were listed.I couldn't find any records on line to follow on from that point..

    Happily I have found the living family of Alice Murphy Rudolph but unfortunately they don't know what happened to Margaret Walsh.
