Would anyone know anything about Murphys who lived in Tisaxon parish and emigrated to the USA around 1865?

My Great-Grandfather, John J. Murphy, was born in Co. Cork around famine times.  My Mother shows a strong

DNA link ( 137cm and  10 segments)

to a Dan Murphy (1807-1892) from townland Holly Hill which was in Tisaxon Parish in Griffith's.

John's firstborn son was baptized Edward at St. Jarlath's parish in Chicago in 1873.

There is another DNA link to a William Murphy born around 1860 who married in Boston in the early 1880's.

Unfortunately, we don't know the names of any of John's or William's siblings or parents.

Should a miracle occur and somebody out there have a link to this family, please share it with us!

Thank you.   Susan Bogie

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

People who lived in Tisaxon civil parish would have been members of Kinsale RC parish The free Irish government site www.irishgenealogy.ie has the RC church records for the Diocese of Cork and Ross.including Kinsale parish. I did a search of Kinsale records and found a John Murphy baptismal record in 1845 in Holly Hill. Also located an 1842 Michael Murphy record with the same parents and an 1858 reocrd for a Margaret Murphy with the same name for the mother but the father was John Murphy rather than James Murphy. Here is a link to the 19th century Kinsale parish register and maybe you could scan for more records. https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0073

I did not find a marriage record.

There were also records for children of Daniel Murphy in Holly Hill.

Let me know if you have any questions.

  • Thank you so much.   Do you have any idea if there are any kind of local records that would show

people who emigrated to U.S. or elsewhere?

    I appreciate your help!

Records in Ireland of departures are rare. You need to try and find them coming into America.
