I will be visiting Ireland September 2019. I am trying to locate some infomation on the Murray family that resided in Derryluskan Tipperary. The 1901 census shows that the Murray family resided at house 6 in Derryluskan(Ardsallagh)Tipperary. Civil parish of Rathcool,Barony of Middlethird. English speaking members of the Church of Ireland.

John Murray  Head of family. Sarah Murray wife. Sarah Murray daughter. John J Murray son. Clara Murray neice. John Murray nephew. Thomas Victor Murray nephew. All of the above born in Tipperary County. I would like to locate their burial location if possible. I have located the death certificate for John Murray head of family and for Thomas Victor Murray. Any information would be appreciated. Thank you

  • Hi Don, appears we have no volunteer in that part of Tipperary, Murray is a difficult name as it appears in every county and is not necessarily confined to a local area, however you have done most of what we can do, are you aware of the free site Irish genealogy, civil records from 1864 and protestatn marraiges from 1845, church records are not there for Tipperary though, you sign in and away you go. Not all certs are visible but deaths to 1968, marriages to 1941 and births to about 1916. https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/

House 6 is just an administration number and bears no relation to the house number if it had one, just the route of the census taker. It can be beneficial to examine the other information on the census, house owners, others in the district etc

I have myself ancestry from that area so keep an eye on it, there are about 4 Facebook pages on Tipperary genealogy, two on DNA and two doing real genealogy so to speak, IG{'s Tiperary Genealogy and I think Tipperary Genealogy, and a lot of people visiting appear to have got assistance if you are on Facebook, they are all private so apply to join, takes abput a day and they are well moderated and very polite.

The Tipperary Library in Thurles or Cashel can be of assistance and the history site also. http://www.tipperarylibraries.ie/library-headquarters/ and http://tipperarystudies.ie/

This site assists me in locating areas in counties so here is Rathcool, my lot are from nearby Rosegreen area, there have been a few queries on the Fethard area. https://www.townlands.ie/tipperary/rathcool/ Main queries are about the name Quirke and are RC if my memory is correct.

There was a book published in 1903 about the area and reprinted in around 1990 but it is also somewhere on Google Books I think. Name is My Clonmel Scrapbook, no idea if anything about Murray in it.

If you have a specific query please get back to me on it and I will at least have a go,

    Enjoy your trip,

    Pat

  • Hi Don:

We actually do have a few volunteers in the area and I'm going to forward your post to them.  There is a local history society in Fethard and some of those members may be able to assist you.  I will contact them, and hopefully, they will be able to assist.  If you have any further questions or if you would like me to share your email address with them, please let me know by emailing me directly at:  jhalloranryan@irelandxo.com

    Kind regards,

    Jane.
