I am looking for information on Ann Murray baptized September 23, 1859 in the parish of Ballynacargy, Westmeath, parents Michael Murray (tailor/farmer) and Anne Ward.  She is the only remaining sibling of my great grandfather for whom we don't have any additional information. If she married and had children, hopefully there are descendants who would have that information.

Her siblings were John and James (both remained in Ballynacargy), Margaret Josephine Conlon (Dublin), and Mary Shelby, Michael Joseph, Kate, Patrick Joseph, and Joseph who all emigrated to New York City.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I searched the civil marriage and death records from 1864-1900 in the Mullingar registration district and did not see a record that age wise would fit someone born in 1859. I also looked at the 1901 census for Co. Westmeath and although there were Ann Murray records around age 40, they were either married or with a number of siblings in a different part of Westmeath. I'd say she either emigrated or moved to another part of Ireland such as Dublin.

  • Canne,

While the age at death is not exactly corresponding to Ann's baptismal year of 1859, this could be a possible death record for her - Anne Murray, a spinster aged 45 years died at Corry, Ballynacargy in December 1900.  The informant was Anne's brother, Michael Murray of Corry who was present at her death:-

Do you know if Ann's brother, Michael Joseph emigrated to New York after 1900?

  • Thank you for your responses and for checking some records.  Ann's brother Michael (my great grandfather) emigrated to New York about 1888. I looked at a couple of Corry families on the 1901 census and didn't recognize the other siblings. If Ann emigrated to NY and married or died there, we would have the possibility of finding her eventually since parent names are recorded on those documents. Other states are hit and miss as far as what information was recorded. I suppose it is also possible that Ann may have died as a child before civil registrations. I cannot find any burial records for Ballynacargy parish to check that possibility. Thanks.
