Mary Ann Murphy was from Cork, born in 1836, her fathers names was Patrick, a labourer who died before 1856. She left Ireland in the early 1850's for England. I've found her marriage certificate for June 1856 when she married my Great Grandfather, George Hamilton in Whitehaven, Cumberland England, both aged only 20 years, I cannot find who her mother was as I have no information on that side at all.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I located four 1836 Mary Murphy baptismal records with father Patrick on two different web sites but you would need the mother's name to confirm any of these records. Also, she could have been born in 1835 or 1837 which increases the number of possible records.

Are you aware of any siblings to Mary?

  • Thank you for your reply I am sorry that I have no more information on her. I only have her marriage certificate and all of her children's names. Same goes for her husband George Hamilton, I've been trying for years to find his mother's family, he was from Down and born in the same year.

  • 2nd daughter was usually called after the maternal grandmother.

  • First son was usually named for paternal grandfather, second for father, third for older brother.
