Hello, I've recently found this website. I'm excited as I've never been able to find much about my Irish side.
First I have a question about abreviations in baptism records. For my Great Grandmother born in 1848. The Parish record copy I recently found on Ancestry has the baptism place as Mayo and Doonane, Laois. I know Laois is the County. It also lists Kildare and Leighlin as the Diocese. So, those are Church names, and not civil areas?
Then looking at the record it self (oh, why didn't the recorder write more neatly!!!)
Baptised Anastasia (scratched up the spelling a bit) p.p. J (I can't read, but Ancestry has Jos) Nash and Altice Treany then two letters, L.L. or? Then I think 2 more names, I'm guessing witnesses/family members. In these records is the Mother's name alway's given as her maiden name?
If anyone wants to look at it, I've attached. It looks to me like the next record was started over the witness names. It looks like Thomas McCan & Julie Treany. Oh, if you do look at the record, can you tell what Anastasia's father's first name is? (thanks so much)
I've read that Nash is not an Irish name, and that Nashes came from France and the name was deNash.
This dear Anastasia is the reason I have a middle name Ann. After this, I'd like to find out how she ended up in NY where she met my Great Grandfather Peter Donohue.
Thanks so much,
Celia
