RYAN BROTHERS PATRICK & MICHAEL EMIGRATE TO CANADA 1823
Help!! Two brothers left Ireland on "coal ship" with stops in Newfoundland, & Sydney, Nova Scotia.
Michael Ryan got off in Harbour Grace , Newfoundland. (birth approx 1798-1803 Ireland???)
Patrick Ryan got off ship in Sydney, Nova Scotia (birth approx 1803 Ireland - death 1882 Sydney , Nova Scotia.
Patrick brought to Canada a wooden cross with metal Jesus. He became Farmer/fisherman with fishing lot on Aspy Bay & 200 Acres in what today is called River Ryan. (Lingan, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia)
Patrick could not read or write. He married in 1829 Mary MacIntyre (scottish born) they had 11 children.

I'm hoping that you had Kilkenny at the end of your post because they were from there? If not the search would be too difficult as there would be hundreds of Michaels and Patricks to sort through.
I treid www.rootsireland.ie/ for brothers from Kilkenny and found these:

CATHARINE]I also tried to find brothers with parents Thomas and Kate as, if Patrick followed the Irish naming pattern in naming his children, the first son and second daughter would have been named after his parents. I could only find a Michael however

I couldn't see them in the 1821 Irish Census
I assume the Canadian Censuses don't mention county of birth if it's not Kilkenny?

My great grandfather, Robert Bertie Ryan , was born in Catalina, Newfoundland on the 8th of July, 1898 and his wife, Jessie Abbott, was born in Sidney Mines, Cape Breton, Nova Scoatia. I believe his father was also named Robert and was born in Birchy Cove, Newfoundland abt 1865. I also have found some DNA matches in Tipperary, Ireland. Not sure if any of this is of use, but I wanted to post this information in hopes of building my familty tree and connecting with any extended family.
