Hi! I am looking for a record of the marriage of a Mr O'Dwyer (possibly John, or James) to a Miss Fitzgerald (probably either Mary or Kathleen). I know of three of their children, but there might have been more. The children's birthdates are approximately Kathleen (1872), James Edward (1875) and John (1878). These children might be registered under the surname, Burton. Any assistance will be welcomed.

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
Fitzgerald and Dwyer are very common names in Tipperary and Limerick where you have posted. I searched for marriage records from 1867-1871 in Limerick and Tipperary where the bride and groom were Fitzgerald and Dwyer. I limited the records to the given names you mark as "probable". One record came up which is below.
see second record https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_re…
I also looked for a James Burton birth record in 1875 and the only record available was in Co. Tyrone. Can you explain why the children were registered as Burton?
More specific info would be helpful. Thanks!

Thank you very much for your reply and for that marriage record. One of the children, John Burton, was my grandfather. He and his siblings were raised in a protestant orphanage in Limerick with the surname Burton. As an adult, my grandfather's cousin, Madge Ryan, told him (by correspondence) that he and his two siblings' parents were Mary Fitzgerald and Mr O' Dwyer. Madge did not tell him why his religion and name were changed. Perhaps she did not know the reason.

Will you please send me a link to the birth record that you found for James Burton (born 1875 in County Tyrone)? That might be my great uncle.

Thank you. I don't think that is the family that I am looking for, unless those parents also had a Kathleen and a John Henry.
