Hi,
I'm Kevin Sullivan of Chicago. I looking for information about my grandfater, Hugh O'Gara, and grandmother, Bridgit O'Gara. Hugh was born on Dec 2, 1874 in Glencolmcille. Bridget was born on Sept 7, 1879 in Ardara.
They immigrated around 1900 and settled in Indiana where they had a large family. I met some of the O'Gara's in the Glencolmcille in 1980. I know there were Wards living in Ardara at at that time.
If possible, I would like to find more information.
I hope to be in Donegal in early late May, early June 2018. I possible, would be happy to meet anyone with any information.
Sincerely,
Kevin Sullivan

Dear Kevin:
Thank you for your post to the Ireland Reaching Out message board and welcome to the site!
We have several volunteers who may be able to assist you with your upcoming visit. I will forward this post to them and you should hear from them in the next week or so.
Alternatively, you might also look at the Civil Records which are available online for free at Irish Genealogy. The link is below:
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/civil-search.jsp
The Registration District for the Ardara area is Glenties. I have found the civil record for Hugh (which you may already have).
You might also be able to follow this family in the 1901 and 1911 Census. The link to the Census is below:
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/
In the meantime, please keep us updated with your travel plans as we may be able to assist you further with your research queries.
You can email me directly at: jhalloranryan@irelandxo.com.
All the best,
Jane.

Seamus,
Many Thanks. This is extremely helpful. Please tell me where ou located this information?
I will be in Donegal in early June. Principally around Glencolmcille, Killeybegs and Ardara. Any suggestions of things to see , places to go? Also, if I can buy you a pint , I would be happy. Any way of knowing if any of the O.Gara's or Wards are still in the area??
Cheers

Hi Kevin,
I am glad you are happy with the records above, I didnt do much but added the surname into the site.
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/civil-search.jsp
and scrolled down for results in Glenties area for registration. Thank you for your kind offer but I must decline at this time, I live further south than Donegal with my young family and only get pleasure of going home to north Donegal a few set times throughout the year. You will have a great time, of that I am sure, the locals from Glencolmcille, Killeybegs and Ardara are lovely, friendly and inviting people! You will be in ggod hands, Take care and all the best,
Seamus
