Hi -- I have been researching my ancestors and have established that my fourth great-grandfather, Michael O'Riordan, was from Clashmore. He was born about 1775 and immigrated to Newfoundland, now part of Canada, in about 1800, where he married a local woman, Grace Saunders. They lived in Tilting Harbour on Fogo Island, Newfoundland, and raised 12 children there while working in the fishing industry. Their eldest son, Patrick, was my third great-grandfather. Their name eventually morphed into the more phonetic Reardon. I would be interested in hearing from anyone who is connected to O'Riordans/Riordans/Reardons in Ireland, especially in Clashmore.

  • FYI We have a message on this family dating back to 2013 from a Kfreadon and there was another party who posted a message in 2020 indicating a connection.

  • I had not remembered that I had replied to that message in 2020 -- I was the "other party." I didn't receive any communication from kfreardon in return, so he/she must not have seen the message.

  • Hi !

I too am searching for Matthias (?-1845) and Helena O'Riordan(/?-1875), my great x 3 grandparents, probably from co. Cork. Their daughter Mary Anne O'Riordan ( 1830?-1912, Taghmon, Co. Wexford) married my great x 2 grandfather in 1848, Edward Joseph Murphy ( 1826, Coachford, Co. Cork-1886, Taghmon, Co. Wexford). Their daughter Marian Murphy ( 1863, Coachford, Co. Cork -1931, Cork City) met my great grandfather , John Timothy Murphy (n 1858, Donoughmore, Co. Cork-Crosshaven, Co. Cork, 1946) in Taghmon, Co. Wexford, where they married May 4 1887.

I only know Matthias and Helena had at least four children, another of whom,  Matthias, son, married Anna Maria and relocated to Buffalo, NY  as a doctor, where he died in 1897.

Anyway, I'll stay glued to your posts.

    Cheers,  Tim Murphy, Melb, Au

  • Hi, Tim -- It looks like our O'Riordans/Riordans took different paths. I guess it's possible they're related several generations back, though. Have you done any DNA testing? I have and my Gedmatch number is A800268 if you have one to compare. Barbara from Toronto area, Canada

  • Hi, Barbara:

We are a DNA match!  My Gedmatch number is AY1737591.

The only problem is that I have Riordans *and* Mahers in my tree!  James Thomas Maher (1905-1963) married May Elizabeth Reardon (1905-1998) and lived in Montclair NJ.  They were my grandparents.  The Riordan/Reardon family was from County Cork, specifically the Macroom area (Aghinagh, Coolacareen, Caum, etc.).  I don't know where the Maher family emigrated from, but I have info for a few generations back.  If you would like to connect, you can reach me here, or on Ancestry (as Kathleen Snider-Belinski), or via email at kathleen_snider@hotmail.com.  Would love to see how we are related!
