  • Hi there,

There are Roman Catholic church records available for the diocese of Tralee. These date from 1772 for baptismal records and 1832 for marriage records. You can find these at the National Library of Ireland, B. to 1845, Pos. 4269; B. to 1874, M. to 1832, 4270; remainder 4271. If you have any difficulty, you could try writing to the parish priest for more assistance.

You could try checking the land records called the Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38) or the later Griffth's Valuation (1848-64). Griffith's is freely available here: www.askaboutireland.com or here: www.failteromhat.com Failte Romhat has lots of other useful links you could try looking at.

Here are some documents you could take a look at:

    • 1799 Petition of 300 prominent Catholics of Co. Kerry. The Dublin Evening Post, June 9, 1799
    • 1821 Some extracts for Tralee and Annagh. National Archives of Ireland (NAI), Thrift extracts
    • 1835 Tralee Voters. Journal of the Kerry Archaeological & Historical Society, No. 19, 1986

Also, Michael O'Connor, A Guide to Tracing your Kerry Ancestors, Dublin, 1994.

Please make sure you link anyone else in your family who is interested in their Irish heritage to our site - and indeed anyone else you know of Irish heritage.

    Kind regards,

    Sinead Cooney

    Genealogist (Ireland XO)
