I am trying to determine the relationship if any between Owen and Patrick McBride.

Patrick born about 1797 is my Great Great Grandfather.

Both Owen and Patrick are listed in the 1834 Tithe Applotment book and the 1860 Griffiths Valuation for Meenagar townland, Dromore parish, Co. Tyrone.

In the 1860 Griffths Valuation Owen is listed as renting 3 acres from Patrick.

I can find no other information about Owen.

Could Owen and Patrick be father/son, brothers or uncle/nephew?

Thank You

Dennis McBride

  • Dennis,

Found this probate abstract for a Patrick McBride. the will itself is on the PRONI website.

The Will of Patrick M'Bride late of Minigar County Tyrone Farmer who died 15 June 1868 at same place was proved at Londonderry by Thomas M'Guigan of Knocknahorn Dromore said County Farmer one of the Executors.

The will mentions his wife Alice and 3 sons Thomas, Patrick & Daniel (the youngest son). Also daughter Catherine McDevitt. It also mentions unnamed sons & daughters in Ireland and America. According to the irishgenealogy indexes, Patrick was 72 when he died.

The Valuation revision records on the PRONI website show Patrick’s farm (plot 8) changing in 1870 to Alice  and then to son Daniel in 1872. Later to Thomas in 1910.

This looks like Daniel in 1901:

This is another Patrick McBride’s death in 1885 aged 75 in Meenagar. Informant was his son Edward. Not sure where he fits into the family.

Owen McBride’s farm in Meenagar (plot 9) changed to Thomas in 1870 and then to Edward McColgan in 1889. Can’t see a death or a will for Owen.

The RC baptism and marriage records for Dromore only start in 1835. Getting back earlier than that may prove challenging.
