Hello, can anyone advise what Parish I ned to look into, for an ancestor who was a "fisherman" from Newcastle.

Would it be Kilcoo?  I am not sure.

With thanks

  • One further (basic) question, if I may:  is it possible to check names of those in a workhouse?  If I want to check if my ancestor was in the Kilkeel Workhouse,

    would records at Proni assist?

    Again, many thanks.

  • Dee,

Yes all surviving records for Kilkeel workhouse (and other workhouses in Northern Ireland) are in PRONI. They are not on-line, and so a personal visit is required to access them. Those within the past 100 years are closed though if you are a relative you can make an FOI request to view them. It doesn’t look as though there are any admission records for Kilkeel prior to 1927 but you would need to check with PRONI:
