  • Hi Lance,

Thank you very much for your message.

Unfortunately it may be difficult to find more information on James without knowing his place of birth. Most Irish record sources- church records, land records, census records- are based on specific locations. Until you know a specific location within Ireland, preferably a parish or placename, it may be difficult to do anything more with these records.

Also, Catholic records for toomevara do not start until 1831 so it will be difficult to find his marriage record or his son?s birth record:

If you think he may have been originally come from Clare it may be a good idea to contact the Local Studies Department of CLare County Library. They have an excellent collection available there and will be able to give you some advice as to what records are available in the county. Here is their webpage:

Have you already tried searching here:

www.familysearch.org has a huge database of genealogical records including some church records for Ireland.

www.rootsireland.ie have a large collection of Irish Church records, however you have to pay to use this site.

Some other websites that you may find helpful are:

The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/

The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx

    Irish Times: http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/index.htm

    Genealogy Links Clare: http://www.genealogylinks.net/uk/ireland/clare/index.html

    Genealogy Links Tipperary: http://www.genealogylinks.net/uk/ireland/tipperary/index.html

    Tipperary Libraries:http://www.tipperarylibraries.ie/index.php/about/geneology-and-local-studies/

Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Lance

my name is Kay Dabovich, nee McNamara.

i have been searching for information on John and Elizabeth, my great great grandparents. Recently visited their gravesite in Scone NSW, Australia. According to the stone they were "natives of Tipperary". I have a Death Cert for Elizabeth but have been unable to obtain one for John. Also have a Baptism Cert for James, their son born 15 Oct 1842, James was my great grandfather.

Elizabeth's Death Certificate  gives her father as James and her age at the time of marriage as 20. Place of marraige was Limmerick. Children of the marriage are listed as James, ? Hamish, John, Timmothy, Mary, Stephen, Hannah, Francis, Elizabeth and an unnamed deceased son. Her death was 6 Sept 1894 aged 75 years
