Hello,

I am looking for information on the families of my g-g-grandparents, Patrick Brady and Ann FitzGerald. A family member told me they were from Co.Kildare "near Dublin". Patrick was b.     c 1823 and Ann c. 1822. They were married in ireland and immigrated to Pennsylvania, Their first child was born in  Jul 1850 in PA

Patrick had 4 brothers, and they also immigrated. Their names were Henry (Harry), John, WIlliam? and Matthew. I found a Patrick and Henry Brady baptized in Monasterevin Parish to James and Ann Brady. I'm not sure this is the correct family.

I would like to find the marriage record for Patrick and Ann Fit.zGerald Brady, and confirm their parents' names, and any siblings. Thank you for any assistance.

    Hi Mary,

    Thank you for your message.

Civil registration did not become mandatory in Ireland until 1864, so prior to this all birth, marriages and deaths were recorded by the local parish church. Most of these records are still held locally so you really do need to know which parish the event took place in order to know where to search.

As Monasterevin is a possible parish for the baptism of Patrick and Henry, this may be the best place to start.

You can use the Irish TImes websites to see what Catholic records are available for the parish and also to see where you can find copies. For Monasterevin parish follow this link:

    http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/fuses/rcparishmaps/index.cfm?fuseaction=showidrecords&churchid=716&CityCounty=Kildare&CityCounty=Kildare&parish=Monasterevan

You could try writing to the local parish priest for possible assistance. It m,ay also be an idea to contact the Family History Centre in Westmeath for assistance, however a fee may apply. Here is their email address:

Have you tried looking into their emigration? Sometimes more information was given at the port of arrival, if you can find passenger record you may be lucky and find a more specific place of origin listed. For information on US immigration records check: http://www.archives.gov/research/immigration/

Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.

    Kind regards,
