Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I assume our parish liaison for Mountmellick may be inactive at present. I did some searching on Roots Ireland and there was no Patrick Dempsey baptismal record with mother Bridget anywhere near 1851 or 1861. I then searched for any Patrick baptized with a mother named Bridget Dempsey and one record came up. See transcription below. Portarlington parish is to the east of Mountmellick.

I looked on FindMyPast for Petty Session Offaly records. I found one Patrick Dempsey who was drunk in public and a second who assaulted a policeman. The 2nd Patrick Dempsey was 26 so born in 1851. If the second Patrick Dempsey is your ancestor, I guess you can disregard the 1863 record.

Thank you so much Roger for doing this research for me.I think the 1863 is too young for my great grandfather and I have seen a document he had that stated he was illegitimate and that his mother's name was Dempsey. The 2nd person with the record is more likely to be him. I will keep tryimg to see if I can find a church to visit. Thank you once again. Jennifer.
