Looking for information about Patrick McCloskey or Elizabeth Harron, said to have married in Derry Cathedral in 1808. Patrick died in the Brooklyn, New York in 1820. Thank you.

Sean,
You haven’t said what denomination Patrick & Elizabeth were. The majority of McCloskeys and Harrons in Co Derry are RC but going by the 1831 census there were also some who were Presbyterian and Church of Ireland. If your family were RC then the bad news is that the earliest parish records for Derry city only start in 1823. And the couple couldn’t have married in the RC Cathedral (St Eugene’s) as it didn’t open till 1873. However if they married in the Church of Ireland, then it’s cathedral (St Columb’s) was open in 1808. It has marriage records back to 1649. You may find those marriage records on some of the pay to view sites such as rootsireland but if not, there’s a copy in PRONI (the public record office) in Belfast.

Thank you for the information, Elwyn. I assume the marriage was RC since we have a family legend that one of Patrick's descendents, John, became a RC Cardinal in the US. I will spend some time looking at the sites you mentioned. Warm regards, Seán
