Hello,

I am planning on visiting Ireland October 4-17. I will be in Dublin the 6-12 visiting the National Library, Valuation Office etc. On the 13 I plan to drive, at first I planned to take a bus but a few people who have been in Ireland recommended driving, to Tullaghobegly civil parish in northwest Donegal which is where I believe my McFaddins and Collums were from.

I plan to sightsee and hopefully find a cousin or two and am open to any other suggestions.

  • Hi there, welcome to Ireland Reaching Out,

That sounds like a very enjoyable holiday and I am sure it will live up to all your expectations of Ireland in the beautiful Autumn months.

I do not live local local but grew up about an hour from there and would have travelled there a good few times back in the day.

I was in contct with admin and they are going to add this message to the Parish page https://www.irelandxo.com/ireland/donegal/tullaghobegly

so that it will be seen more local. On the main Tullyobegley page there are a few links within the parish discription that may aid your family research further and orientate you to your family locations that are of interest.

Driving is by far the best mode of transport to, from,  and around the area and it will free up so much more of your options for all the tourist locations and events nearby. There is loads to do!

Although i do enjoy it, i might not be able commit to meeting and welcoming you to the area because I live somewhat furtther south, the but I will try and advise and help you any other way I can, just add as much info that you have and I will try and answer it the best I can.

P.s.. If there is anyone reading this, and is local or lived there and would like to advise or help also please do, it would be most welcome!

Kind regards Seamus Callaghan (Kerrykeel, Donegal)
