  • Greetings from quarantine in New York.                   The hunt for POWER/POWERS relatives began in the 1980s for me.            Of the information you have above, do you know what happened to Patrick (b. 1841)?       It is the only first name that seems to connect with my maternal grandfather's family.            His story was that he heard they were from Dungarvan area........and he met his wife, Norah Leahy, near Four-Mile-Water (on Tipperary border).                  Best wishes to you and your family for good health,      Ann Marie Bridget Lynch

  • Good afternoon from Texas. I was born and raised in Portsmouth NH up until my arthritis could take it no more. Moved to 30 miles outside of Austin almost 32 years ago (82 here right now) What information I have isn't much. Patrick Powers (my 3rd great grandfather) was born about 1807. He met and married Margaret Lynch (any connection ???) 23 Jan 1833 in Stradbally. They had seven children, with Patrick being the fifth. He was baptized on 12 Feb 1841. I was able to find the marriage certificate for Patrick Sr and Margaret and all seven birth certificates on RootIreland .com. I know at least two of the girls and two of the boys came with Margaret to Worcester, MA in the 1850s. I have copies of all five of their death certificates. I taught high school 20 miles east of there in the1980s. My grandmother Power was still living in Worcester at the time and we did a great deal of of genealogy then. Patrick Sr, Patrick Jr, Ellen and Micheal I have been looking for years in Ireland. I am beginning to think they also came over. I recently found Patrick Sr. and Margaret's parents and would be happy to share if this is the Patrick you are looking for. By the by, are you in NYC? I have a sister and cousin who live on Long Island. Enough already, for an introvert, I can get very long winded when talking genealogy. Best of luck to you and yours. Edwin R Power

  • Good morning from Long Island, New York!                              Not sure about our Patrick Powers as a connection-   our Patrick Powers married Bridget Kane.      We HEARD they were from the Dungarvan area of Ireland- and we know they had  Richard (around 1860), Joseph (around 1862), John Joseph (around 1864), Patrick (not sure of the year) and Anastasia (around 1870), and Edward (also not sure of the year).                       Ballykerogue is one of the place names we have found.               Kilmacthomas is an area of baptism (for Anastasia).             Have no record for the marriage of Patrick and Bridget.                    I guess I need to look through some records from various churches in the areas I mentioned...............                              For sure, Richard, John, Joseph and Anastasia moved to Brooklyn, NY.                       How they picked Brooklyn?      NOT SURE.                                 Hope you are well and continue to be safe in Texas.           I am a caregiver for Mom (age 88) and my godmother (age 87), so we are VERY cautious about any social interactions.    Everyone wears masks everywhere...............and I am sure all that extra CO2 is making my thought process a bit loopy sometimes!                                             Al my best-     Ann Marie

  • It seems so unlikely to have two Patrick Powers in Waterford, Ireland at the same time. Are you sure they are not the same? ( he said tongue in cheek ) My great uncle was a Jesuit priest who started my genealogy addiction. He spent time in Ireland and told me that in Waterford County "you can't throw a stick without hitting a Power" I have found that so true and having a Power marry a Powers whose mother was a Power. Trust me there where hundreds of Patrick Powers at that time. I have a family tree on Ancestry under Power family tree and am working on one at wiki tree you are more than welcome to look if you think it might help you. Anyway stay well, stay sane. Edwin
