My greatgrandmother, Mary Agnes Power, was born in Toom, Toomevara, Tipperary, in 1851. According to the census, she could read and write, so I assume she attended school in Ireland before she immigrated to the US in 1871. Where was the school nearest her home? Are there records for that school during the 1850's and 1860's and early 1870's? Mary's siblings and their baptism dates are: John 1840, Thomas 1842, Bridget 1845, David 1847, Catherine 1849, Phillip or Richard Jan. 1855, Michael Nov. 1855, Carroll 1859, Martin 1860. Her parents were David Power and Mary Britt Power. I would also be interested in knowing if any of her siblings went to school and where? Any information you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Hi,
This may help.
Podcast: The Famine in Toomevara, Co Tipperary by Helen O Brien Malone – Tipperary StudiesI found Carroll's Baptism in 1859 in Moneygall which is the next town going north, this is in County Offaly.
Going by the dates the earlier children were born looks like they were part of the clearences.
If you search in Ancestry Bridget's birth has been entered as the mothers maiden name Britten.
So possibly school was in Moneygall.
I have attached some files. the Census has been entered as Honeyjail ...it's Moneygall.Hope has helped.

Margot, thank you so much for your quick response. I have copied the documents you attached and I will look at the podcast today. I will definitely check in Moneygall, Offaly, for the school they attended. Thanks again for your help! Charlene
