My g-g-grandmother, Ella Quinn, was born around May 1850 in County Longford. She immigrated to the States around the late 1860s.or early 1870s. Later she asked for a sister to be sent to her, and her family sent Rosaline. I'm trying to find out more about her and her family. Is there anyone who can help me?

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I searched on the subscription site Roots Ireland from 1840-1855 and did not find an Ella or Ellen Quinn baptismal record in Co. Longford. There were four Rose Quinn baptismal records from 1847-1855. Can you locate their parents names from a death record or an obituary?

  • I have more information on my Quinn family. They are from Aughadowry, Drumlish, County Longford.

My g-g-g-grandfather was Bartholomew Quinn born 1794. He married Ann Brady (although she might have been called Mary) born 1809 she died in 1889.

    They had the following children:

    John b. 1835

    Mary b.  1837

    Bridget  b. 1839

    Bartholomew b. 1841

Ella (Eleanor) b. 1847 my great-great-grandmother who immigrated to Philadelphia

    Cecilia b. 1849

Michael (who might have gone by a middle name Philip) b. 1851

    Margaret b. 1853

Roseline b. 1855 (but she lied about her age on all her US documents.) She also immigrated and went into business with Ella.

Philip (Michael) was found at the same address as the family as the head. He married Mary Dermody b. 1863.

    They had the following children.

    Patrick b. 1889

    James b. 1890

    Anne Maria b. 1893

    Philip b. 1894

    Michael Joseph 1897

    Bridget - 1900

    John 1902

That's as far as I've gotten. Does anyone know this family?

Good news! The Rose Quinn you located was one of the four possibilities I found in my first response.

  • Hi Roger,

That's great! Now, how do I go about finding my cousins? Assuming they want to know me.

Go to the online Irish phone book  https://www.eirphonebook.ie/q/name/    This data base is only for land line phones. Enter Quinn County Longford  and make sure you check the Residential Tab. You will get 20 records and there is one in Aughadowry. I would suggest sending a letter rather than a cold call.  FYI-We are not allowed to provide personal info on the message board .

  • Hi Roger and Maje,

Just seeing this post for the first time. I may be related to Maje as my great grandmother was Anne Quinn from Aughadowry, Co. Longford. Her father was reorded as Bartley Quinn on her marriage cert. I cannot find a record of her baptism, so I do not know what year she was born.
