Hello,

I was wondering if anyone had any information regarding the family name "Reynolds". My grandmother, born 1939, was adopted in England where she has always lived, from Irish parents who we do not yet know the names of. However, through Ancestry, we have traced her heritage back to Ireland, specifically Leitrim, and met someone on Ancestry who has helped out our research greatly. Yet, while we now have photographs of possible family members it is still unknown which lady is my grandmother's mother, and we seem to have hit a dead end. Some other information I have is that my grandmother's mother moved to England as well and lived until age 88. Her siblings moved to NYC, specifically the Bronx. In the family photographs we have acquired, there are 3 sisters standing together, yet we still have no idea which lady is my grandmother's mother!! We also know the sisters had 1 brother.

If anyone has any information regarding this, feel free to message as any help is greatly appreciated! I could also send the photographs.

  • Ireland now allows adopted people to get their records. Please see https://www.birthinfo.ie/ Good luck with this and regards to your grandmother.

  • Anne: Reynolds is/was a very common surname in Co. Leitrim. In fact in the 1901 census for Co. Leitrim, there were 271 Reynolds' households. I can't tell if you tested your DNA with Ancestry or just used Ancestry for research. Also, do you have the name of your great-grandmother. Possibly her birth record is online at www.irishgenealogy.ie. Birth records are available until 1921. Roger McDonnell
