My Great Grandfather served as an RIC Constable in Scarriff from 1882 to retirement as Head Constable in 1891.
He married Eliza(beth) Reddy nee Lynch - widow of Constable John Reddy (or Ready) in 1882 in Westmeath
My Gran Julia (later Neary) was born there in 1888, also her siblings Mary Anne 1884 & Patrick James 1886.
I am seeking any information on the family & especially relating to his Police Service there - i am particularly keen to acquire a photograph as he is the 5th generation to serve in the Police.

Jim / Patricia there is an excellent private Facebook group Royal Irish Constabulary A Forgotten Irish Police Force 1816 - 1922, there is a history of the force written by Jim Herlihy who is active in the group, apply to join and I understand that the notebooks are held in Kew, doubt you'll get in just now.

My hope was to perhaps trace descendants locally & maybe obtain a photo.

Why not send a query to the local paper in Clare? You might have a chance of connecting with living relatives that way--more than you would on IrelandXO. Good luck!
