  • Hello Lucy,

I don't know if the church records go back that far for most of the country so you may find it difficult.  However if you go to www.askaboutireland.ie and search the Griffith valuation you'll find that most Rogans were in the northern counties.  I know of many families of Rogans living around Carlingford, Co. Louth.

    Hope this helps a little,

    Anne Dennehy

  • Thanks, Anne.  I appreciate your getting back to me.  I'd checked Griffith Valuations and find that dates are in mid-1800s, 50 or 60 years after Daniel left Ireland and I have no idea who his people were or where they lived.  I've included his children's names in hopes that they may have been chosen for his relatives back in Ireland.  Louth is a good possibility and I'll keep looking!  thanks again.  Lucy

  • Lucy:

My husband (Patrick Sean Rogan) is a descendant of this Daniel Rogan thru his son Daniel Jr. (Rev.). We are hitting block walls as well. Can we be in contact?

  • My maternal great grandparents came from Ireland to Staffordshire before moving to South Yorkshire.  I believe they may have come from Fermanagh in the 1850s.  My great grandmother's maiden name was Sharkey.

  • Yes, Julie!  Happy to hear from you.  My line is through #1 Daniel's son Amos and his daughter Katherine Sophia.  As a young adult, she went to TX where she married Edward Heppenstall.  I've not had luck in locating any Rogans in Ireland and, according to family information, Daniel didn't allow much to go on.  As he left from Dublin, my guess would be he came from somewhere south of County Down where the name Rogan appears.    Are you tracking the America Rogans?  I'm in SC.  Where are you?  Lucy

  • I know this is an old post, but I'm also a direct descendant of Daniel Rogan & his son, Rev Daniel Rogan.  Has anyone found additional information for him?

  • Hi, Dianne...unfortunately, I've not found any more on Daniel, Sr., particularly where in Ireland he came from.  There's available info on Rev. Daniel Rogan and limited info of my ascendant, Amos, and more on his daughter Katherine Sophia.  Good luck in your quest and I'd like to keep in touch.  Lucy

  • Hi,

At this moment I am working on the Rogan side of my family, and they have always proved difficult to solve. To all the Rogans out there have you tried looking into the Liverpool archives as there is many Rogans in Liverpool they all came around 1840. On the 1841 census you will see many going back to the late seventeen hundreds. They nearly all come from Northern Ireland and all the families must be connected as it is difficult following a line because of all the duplication of names. Also Liverpool at that time was growing into a major port to America via Ireland.

My Rogan family is also a Daniel Rogan born about 1797 and his wife was a Mary Sheelan. Mary's maiden name was confirmed because her youngest child was born in Liverpool. On the 1841 census it shows Daniel with his wife and children Margaret born about1822, Mary born about1824, James born about 1827, Catherine born about 1833, Ann & Judith born 1835, and Michael born 1840 in Liverpool. Also he must have had a child named after him, did he die?

My dilemma is that I found baptisms for Ann and Judith in Carlingford, Louth, for 1835. Then some of the others for Nobber, Meath, Ireland and there is a difference in the years of birth. I would be grateful for any input

    Regards

    Sophia

  • HI, Sophia...my Daniel Rogan was born in Ireland in 1770-1771; family history written much later by his grandson Theophilus stated that Daniel was born in 1771 and arrived in Baltimore in 1791 on his 21st birthday which would have Daniel born in 1770...if he actually arrived in 1791.  He may have been part of your Daniel's family as names seem to frequently be carried on for generations.  Your James and Catherine are the only 2 names I see duplicated in my line.  I keep searching but have found no connections to my Daniel's Irish family unfortunately.  Lucy
