I'm looking for information on my maternal gr grandmother's family.  From what I can determine Rose Murray was born 10 May 1865 in Drummin Galway to Patrick Murray and Rose Tuohy. In 1888 Rose Murray was in Manhattan New York where she married Lawrence Sheehan.  She gave birth to my grandmother Mary Rose Sheehan 13 Apr 1889 and died 19 April 1891

I found the civil birth record for Rose and the family was living in Looscaun townland in Ballynakill civil parish. Drummin is another townland in Ballynakill civil parish

    https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_retur…

I searched on the subscription site Roots Ireland and found the marriage for the parents on March 4 1851 at Woodford RC church

I found a baptismal record for a Denis Murray s August 6 1852  at Woodford father Patrick Murray and mother Rose Tuohy

I located another possible sibling  Maria born January 9 1858 and baptized January 10 Woodford but the mother was shown as Judith Tuohy so I'm not sure if this is the same family or not.

Woodford parish has gaps in their records. Baptismal records are available from  March 1851- August 1861     April 1865-February 1869    https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0340  Possibly there were other children born between 1861-1865. NOTE I located a son Patrick who was the informant at his mother's death and occupied the farm in the 1901 census.

Patrick Murray died in 1867 at age 45

Rose Murray died 1898  second record   https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_retu…

    1901 census  http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Galway/Drummin/Looscau…

  • Thanks so much for this information!!

This will give me new rabbit holes to go down and maybe connect with some Irish family.

    2 questions

How do you know that's Rose's son Patrick in the census? Becaue of his broher Denis? Or could you tell from the address?

Whot does "2nd record mean on Rose's death? Is this Rose Tuohy Murray?

In looking for siblings to Rose I found a brother Denis and a possible sister Maria but because of the gap in records, I assumed there were other siblings. I went to Looscaun in the 1901 census and found Patrick Murray who had an unmarried brother named Denis living with him. Likely there is only one Denis Murrray in Looscaun the brother to Rose and therefore Patrick had to be a brother also.

Rose Murray death--When you open the link and sign-in with your name, you will get a page with about eight-ten records. The second record is the death record for the mother.
