Hello,

I saw a few years back user Kate_b was looking for information regarding a Margaret Gormley who had emmigrated to Brooklyn NY. I myself am looking for the same person, Margaret would be my grandmother, as long as the record that someone sent me is accurate.

Birthdate would be 28Oct1904

Carrigallen, Ireland

Arrived in US 08Oct1922

She had my father in 1939, my dad had mentioned a sister, that from what I understood they had never met, or he doesn't remember meeting her? He had said her name was Ann, but looks like it was a Mary Ann. I never met my either of my father's parent's, I'm only 40 so they were long gone before I came around. He did not know much about either one of his parents as they emmigrated to the US, in addition some other reasons....Margaret husband, my grandfather, was from Sweden, his last name, like mine, was Tillman

She was close friends with Ellen Rose McQuire, who was also apparently from County Leitrim. If anyone has any information, please feel free to reach out. From what I have quickly researched about Carrigallenit is a very small village, so I hope someone has some informaiton.

Thank you for your help :)

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

From what I can see your Margaret was the youngest of at least six children who lived in the townland of Cornaghy in Carrigallen civil parish. The parents were Thomas Gormley and Margarett Reilly and they married February 2, 1890 in Carrigallen church. I did not locate a civil marriage record. Thomas Sr. apparently died between 1904 and 1911

Here is the 1911 census record for the family.http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/nai002707919/

For your records, here is the civil birth record for Margaret.

  • Thank you so much, Roger.

Looks like this is her, the documents we have here when she came in the US had a lot of mis-spellings, even spelled the town with an "S", looks like date of birth that I have was one day off. This is very helpful informaiton and hopefully will lead to family.

    Have a good evening,

    Katie
