Hello. I'm hoping to find anyone who is familiar with the name HUGGINS or possibly Higgins. My ancestor William Huggins was born in Killashandra, Ireland, around 1794. I'd like to know about his family futher back.
Some of the sources have a man by the same name as being born in England, but William's naturalization to the United States says Ireland. My DNA results shows a definite presence in Ireland within 6 generations, and this is the only ancestor who seems to fit that description, which is why I'm going to go with an Irish birth.
We also know nothing as to why this family left Ireland. Was there some historical significance to the time he was born?
My branch settled in Clinton County, New York (USA), by 1831.

18th-century HUGGINS marriages Killeshandra (CofI) include:
James Huggins of DERNAWEEL & Margaret Beatty married 26-Oct-1775
Robert Huggins of BRANKHILL & Elizabeth Bell married 02-Jul-1787
HUGGINS appears on record in 1832 (Tithe Applotment Records) in the following Killashandra townlands:
Charles & John Huggins of Drumhart (Presbyterian – James HUGGINS is recorded here in Griffith's Valuation 1857)
Andrew Huggins of Sallaghan (is recorded as HIGGINS in Griffith's Valuation 1857)
John & Jane Huggins of Portlongfield (Church of Ireland – Jane Huggins, widow, is recorded here in Griffith's Valuation 1857).
