On my mother's side of the family. Mary Frances McCormick (her maiden name) was my great, great grandmother- she had two husbands the first husband was William Tonner and the second one was Henry Keating (my great great grandfather) and his grandfather invented Portland Cement in England (sold to someone else) and moved to America and bought a farm in either Indiana or Wisconsin might have been a Dr.).  Mary Frances had 8 children including my great grandmother Alice Keating and she married William C. Horgan, who was my great grandfather.  They lived in Batavia, IL and he worked on the railroad in Illinois.  Alice and William had one child, Alice Marie Horgan, my grandmother who married to Lee Esser and they had 4 children including my mother Mary Alice Esser.

On my father's side of the family, my grandparents were Walter Devine and he had two wives, one we don't know the name and the second one was my grandmother Alice Dooley (her maiden name). Walter Devine's father had a shoe factory in Harrisburg, PA called Devine and Youngal Shoe Factory. Alice was a shoe buyer at Strawbridge and Clothier in Philadelphia, PA. They had 3 children including my father Tom Devine.

  • Hi Kathy,

I searched rootsireland.ie for Mary Frances McCormick births in all counties and got 7 matches:

    1869 & 1880 Antrim; 1894 Derry (twice) 1905 Derry 1918 Tipperary and 1919 Donegal.

Do you have an idea of her birth year?

  • Thanks for the quick response.  I'm not sure, let me ask my Mom and see if she can help to narrow it down.
