Hi, I’m searching for ancestors of Thomas Noone who left Ireland for the United States in 1851.

  • Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

The baptismal records for Moycullen RC parish have a gap between March 1823 thru 1836 and it is likely that Thomas was born in the gap period if he left in 1851. https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0633  Do you have any information on his parents names?

  • Hi, Thanks for responding so quickly.

I don't have his parents name. I only have his date of birth as 1825.

As far as I can tell his spouse's name was Ellen Erner.

    Does any of this help?

    Many thanks for any assistance!

  • Hi,

Thanks for getting back to me!

Too bad that you weren't able to find anything but fully understand.

Any suggestion about how best to proceed finding out more information about the "Noone" family?

    Regards,

    Tim

  • Hi,

I just found some other information that I forgot I had.

I think I spelled the wife's name wrong. I believe it was "Ellen Earner". Might that be findable? I believe she was born in 1815. Also, my records show that she and Thomas had atleast one child while still in Ireland. Her name was "Mary Noone" born in 1847. Could this information help in better identifying the wider family?

Again many thanks for your assistance!

    Sincerely,

    Tim

The subscription site Roots Ireland actually had two baptismal records for children of Thomas and Ellen. See below. Did not locate a marriage record. Likely they were married in a different parish that does not have records back to 1847-1848. No townland shown on the baptismal records. I also did not locate a baptismal record for Ellen Earner.

  • Morning Roger,

Thank you very much for the information. It certainly sounds like it it the right "Thomas" and "Ellen"!

Do you have any suggestions to find out how to possibly trace heir relatives that stayed in Ireland and might still live in the Moycullen area?

    Best regards,

    Tim

  • Tim:

I've been away for a week on vacation. ( I live in the States).

The 1901 census for Moycullen civil parish had eight Noone households and there were no Erner/Earner households. There is no easy way to answer your question. Some people have placed an ad in local papers looking for possible relatives. The Connacht Tribune would be a possibility. https://connachttribune.ie/  However, to be realistic, it is unlikely that someone locally would be aware that they had a relative that left Ireland almost 170 years ago. All the best!
