Hi 

I am researching my family history and hoping to find further information on my great grandfather Thomas Ryan and family.

The 1881 census shows him living in Kirkdale, Liverpool and that he was born in Tuam in 1857. His marriage certificate shows his father as James Ryan.

The Catholic parish registers show a Thomas Ryan was baptised in June 1857 and his parents were James Ryan and Mary Kelly. Sponsors were John and Margaret Ryan.

James Ryan and Mary Kelly were married on 26th July 1843 at Tuam Cathedral, witnesses were Patt McGrath and Winf- Coleman.

A possible sibling is Michl Ryan baptised 31st July 1842 with same named parents and sponsor Mary Mylan.

Griffith’s valuation shows a James Ryan living in Cloonascragh in 1855. 

I would appreciate any further information anyone might be able to find on the family  as I appear to have hit the infamous brick wall ! I would especially like to know if there were any other siblings!

    The subscription site Roots Ireland had baptismal records three other children of James Ryan and Mary Kelly (in additon to the 1842 Michael record you located) The only caution , however, would be the fact that Ryan and Kelly are very common surnames.See transcriptions below

    That’s really good news! I couldn’t find those leads on Ancestry , hopefully, I can build on these now. John, Mary and Margaret are names that have followed on into the next two generations in our Ryan line, so who knows ? Lots more homework to do!
