Hello,
I have 8 McGinnis ancestors born in Seeharan. (Parish: Mullagh, PLU:Bailieboough, DED: Crossbane), that DO show up in the Catholic parish records, and in irishgenealogy.ie. However, I cannot find them in the civil records. Am I doing something wrong or is it possible that this townland was skipped, and if so, is there a way to correct that?
All children have parents Thomas and Anne (McBride) McGinnis/McGuinness: Patrick (1860), John (1861), Catherine (1863), Charles (1866), James (1868), Thomas (1871), Peter (1873), Michael (1876). I understand that maybe the early ones might not be available, but the later ones should be. Yet nothing is there. I think the entire townland is missing. Please help !!
Thank you for whatever help you can give me.
Barbara

Registration of births started in 1864, and it was up to the parents to register the birth - they may not have done so, there were omissions particularly in the early years of registration.
A key detail when searching for civil records is the Registration District, which would have been Bailieborough - generally the same as the Poor Law Union. At least one of the children's births after 1864 was registered - Michael. He was born on the 8th of December 1876, and registered in February 1877, see this link (see entry 222 in the register image). The surname has been recorded as MCGUINNESS.
