My uncle, Mickey Mullins (aged 86) is trying to locate an Aunt/family with whom he stayed ca. 1943. The family lived outside of Tuam and one of the sons, James, was a carriage maker. The workshop was located in front of the house. The family possibly had the surname O'Farrell or Mangan.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as my uncle is coming over from the UK in a couple of weeks.

Thanking you,

John Lyttle

  • Hello John,

Thank you for posting your query. My name is Clare Horgan I am a volunteer for the Claregalway area in Co. Galway.

I was able to do a little research, from the information given but unfortunately, I was not able to find a carriage/coach maker in Tuam under the names given.

I recommend you get in touch with the historical and genealogical groups in Tuam if you have not done so already. They are very active and may have access to files that I do not.  Many of the more recent records are not disclosed in Ireland as there is a 100-year rule on a lot of information online.

    There is:

The Tuam Old Society https://irelandxo.com/ireland-xo/visiting/old-tuam-society more historical but they mention for a genealogical question to contact a Clare Brennan with http://www.tuamfamilyhistories.com/search_page.htm

I can't find a direct method of contacting Clare but I would suggest reaching out to the Tuam Society on oldtuamsociety@gmail.com (http://oldtuamsociety.blogspot.com)

    My own email is claregalway@irelandxo.com

    Best of luck,

    Clare
