My great, great grandfather, John Dorian was a farmer in Legnawley Glebe, County Donegal in the Parish of Inver. I believe he was born around 1816 in Legnawley Glebe. He married Mary Gallagher in 1838. They were both Roman Catholic and had six children: James, Patrick, Charles, Francis, Mary and Alice. Charles is my great grandfather and he emigrated to Saint Mary's, Ohio in the U.S. aournd 1870-71.
I think John's father was also named John based on Griffith's valuation showing a John Jr. and John Sr.
I'm curious where Mary is from and who her parents were. She may have had a 1/2 brother named Patrick (1817-1904). I would also love to find out who John's parents were.
I've searched 1841, 1851, and 1901 census forms; birth and marriage certificates; Griffith's valuations, Catholic church records; Ancestry.com and Roots Ireland. I did find death certificates for both John and Mary.
Thank you so much for help! I hope to visit County Donegal and see where my ancestors lived, but have no details yet.

You have done an excellent job of researching your family despite not having any RC church records prior to 1860.
There is not much I can add. I would say that farmers in some situations leased two different plots of land usually in the same townland but occasionally in two different townlands. From Google maps the two townlands are approximately two miles apart.
I also found all the Dorian records in the Tithe listings for Inver civil parish.

Thank you, Roger! I thought I replied a couple days ago, but don't see it posted.
I will definitely research the tithe applotment books. That's a new resource fo rme.
I learned through another person that the Cranny Lower John Dorrian is not my John Dorrian's father. Apparently both of my great great grandparents' families came from Legnawley Glebe.
My sister and I are making a trip to County Donegal in a couple weeks. I'll send a separate post about that.
Thanks again for all of your help!
