Hello! I have had an unexpected opportunity to visit Ireland for the first time and it has been a dream to visit ancestral lands with my mother. The trip date is now fast approaching (July 18) and I have not made as much research progress as I would have wished.
Could anyone help with JOHN DALEY/DALY and JANE GORDON in Co. Clare (I believe)?
Based on Canadian census records, John and Jane were both born in 1822/23 in "Ireland".
I've found a Feb 3 1822 baptism record for John Daley in parish Cratloe (father: Patrick Daly; mother Anna Molony; sponsors John and Barbara Crowe) but I don't know if this is him. John Daley is Catholic. (I would presume Jane Gordon would be as well but I have no evidence to say for certain. There is a Jane Gordon who was baptised in London/Church of England but wouldn't it be unlikely she'd have ended up in Clare?)
Their son Charles was born "USA" c. 1854 (Canadian census records). The family was in Canada by 1880 (Canadian census and marriage records) and likely earlier but I haven't found immigration documentation.
John Daly and Jane Gordon are listed as parents on their son Charles Daly's death certificate in Wentworth, Canada. And John Daly and Jane G. Daly are named as parents on Charles' marriage certificate in Wentworth, Ontario in 1880.
There are Ancestry trees without sources that list both Jane and John as originating from Co. Clare. My DNA matches with some Clare Roots Society members (but that could be due to other Clare ancestors).
I would love to find their marriage place and birth place and parents so I might visit where they lived and married and where their parents are buried. Although I have other Irish ancestral surnames in my lineage, Daly was my beloved grandfather's name, so the one I feel closest too. I understand it is common, which makes my search challenging (especially given the steep learning curve I face of Irish history and genealogy!) but perhaps John is familiar to someone here or someone with more experience can confirm the Cratloe baptism? I would be grateful for any help.
I have searched Canadian census records, had a 24-hour subscription to Roots Ireland I searched, and I believe I found the possible baptism in the National Library site parish registers. Unfortunately, as something new to all this, I haven't been methodical or tracked everything as well as I should have.
Here is my public tree: https://www.ancestry.com/family-tree/tree/60578406/family?cfpid=4205874…
Thank you very much to anyone who reads this. :-)

Hi Carrie, there are two Gordon names in County Clare in the Tithe records. Robert and Hugh
The Tithe Applotment Books, 1823-37 (nationalarchives.ie)Townlands in Kilmacrehy
It says the townland is Castleannesley but there is another when I searched in County Wexford so be careful. If Catholic use this site..........look for Clare and the area on the map above. You may have to look at the Parishes near by.

Carrie,
To add to the Post by Margot, Griffith's Valuation - Printed in 1852 - has a John Gordon in the townland of Glennagross - Barony of Bunratty - Co. Clare which is close to Cratloe.
You can see from Griffith's record that the surname "Gordon" was in various parts of County Clare c1850.

Thank you so much for these responses! I had the great pleasure of connecting with volunteer Paddy Waldron in Kilkee while I was visiting Co. Clare in July. He was and has continued to be very generous with his time and genealogical knowledge. We haven't found Jane Gordon or John Daley - yet. We're working a theory that William Gordon of Leadmore East may be Jane's father.
Since first posting and since returning home, I have confirmed that Jane Gordon was definitely from Co. Clare (her death notice published in Hamilton, Ontario indicates so).
My research continues - much slower now that I'm back to the responsibilities of home - but I am hopeful that I will be back to Co. Clare (I've fallen in love with Loop Head and the cliffs) and will have narrowed down more closely, the lands my ancestors considered home.
Thank you again for these suggestions to explore and for the continued support.
