seeking information on Henthorn family in Cavan 1800 - 1900

I dont know how much research you have done, but if your family lore would hold true.  I looked at the 1901 Census and there were still Henthorns living there in Cordingin, Laragh and in another townland Aughadrumgowna or Calffield also in the Laragh.  But Adam nor Hannah feature in it, there is also a partial census for 1821 and three families of Henthorns are there, Thomas & Adam Junior were not born at that stage & Adam Snr is not listed.  I looked up RootsIreland (subscription required) and I found the following:

I looked for wills in Adam's name and could not find any reference to him.  I also looked https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/civil-perform-sear… for Henthorn and there are 100 records between births, marriages & deaths connected to the surname, which is not huge, it would be worthwhile to see if you can find any reference to Adam there, mainly as families often carry the names down.  The problem with your time line is that records are incomplete, missing or the event not registered.  Do search for grave records for their parish, if they have a legible headstone, it may not be transcribed and online at the moment but volunteers do undertake this work from time to time.

When you say that they went to Canada via New York, do you think that the whole family left together? Did some of them stay in New York?  Had they family in Canada? Chain migration is common.  You could also consider DNA, it does open possibilities and lots of questions, but you could be lucky to turn up more of the family, who may have the answers.  I hope I have helped you in some way.   Best wishes with your research and if you turn up anything that you would like to question me on please do.

To my knowledge  Thomas and Adam emigrated together, just the two of them.  No mention of others.  However, a Margaret Henthorn was witness to Thomas' wedding in Quebec Canada in 1849. Thought to be his sister.  Perhaps this links to the Thomas Henthorn born in 1829.  The only documentation on birth dates for the brothers Thomas and Adan is from US immigration and census records.  A Thomas with a sister Margaret and a father Adam matches to my GG grandfather.   Could the Adam who  died in 1831 age 63 be the same Adam who fathered Thomas in 1829.   I note that Bailieborough is only 20 km from Cordegan (Cordingin) and all the Henthorn's I have found in the early 1800's have been centered on this area of Cavan.

I have done DNA in Ancestry and made some connections on my monther's side but nothing on the Henthorn side.

Carmel you have been very helpful.  Perhaps our family does not link to the Cordegan Henthorn's as directly as we have been thinking.
