My great-grandfather is listed on a 1900 U.S. census as John Curran born 1836 in Ireland, nothing more specific. He immigrated in 1858. Marriend a women from Nova Scotia named Elsie McClean. Sketchy information at best I know. I'm going to continue to look for morre information but am posting this on the chance that maybe someone in this community can help or offer some tips. I'm new to this. Thanks!

Hi Sharon!
Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
You may want to modify the subject line to show John Curran. Many times people will search for all messages with a particular surname and they will miss your message if they are looking for Currans.
Curran was a fiarly common surname in Ireland so I can't pinpoint a particular area.
Just so you know some Irish RC parishes do not have records back to 1836. The key piece of info that our volunteers would need would be his parents names from a death record or obit. Are you aware of siblings? Have you used the resources on Ancestry.com or familysearch.org ? Possibly someone has a tree that includes John.
