Will be visiting Ireland for the first (but hopefully not last!) time in September 2024. I’m a bit stuck in researching our genealogy. I’ve traced a Richard Shea b.1857, married to Bridget Barlow b.1869. Both born in Ireland, but I could find no further info. We evidently have relatives on the Shea side in Windgap in County Kilkenny, so we’re excited to look around the village during our trip.
Any suggestions on continuing my research would be much appreciated!

Debbie:
I assume the marriage was not in Ireland? Do you have Richard's parents names? There is an 1857 Richard Shea baptismal record in Co. Kilkenny but we need the parents names to confirm this is the correct record.

Debbie:
One of our volunteers, Shane Wilson, found that Richard Shea and Bridget Barlow were married in Providence, Rhode Island in December 1890. Parents of Richard were Laurence Shea and Bridget Gorman. In Ireland, the Sheas lived in Beatin townland in Owning civil parish and the RC parish was Templeorum.
Richard had the following siblings based on data from the subscription site Roots Ireland: Thomas 1855 Judith 1858 Patrick 1860 Laurence 1861 Martin 1864 Catherine 1866 Mary 1868
Laurence and Bridget were married February 6 1855 in Templeorum RC church.
The 1901 census for Beatin shows that Thomas and Martin (both not married) were living in Beatin with their niece and nephew Catherine and Laurence Walsh.Likely Laurence and Bridget died pre 1901.
