Hi Maribeth,
Thank you for your message.
Do you know if John was Catholic or Anglican?
Most Catholic records are held locally. One website which may be of help to you is the irishtimes. Here, they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. Here is a link to the Roman Catholic parishes in Co. Wexford:
http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/browse/counties/rcmaps/wexfordrc.htm
Templeshanbo is chiefly in the Roman Catholic parish of Ballindaggin. However, it is also partly in Newtownbarry, so it may worth your while to check these records aswell. If you just click into each parish on the map it will show what records are available.
For Church of Ireland records check http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42 and http://www.nationalarchives.ie/. Also the Anglican Record Project has created an index to their records: http://ireland.anglican.org/cmsfiles/pdf/AboutUs/library/AngRecord/bunclodyunionindex.pdf
Also, both Catholic and Church of Ireland records from the pre 1900 period are currently being uploaded to www.irishgenealogy.ie/index.html free of charge. However, as this is an on-going project not all records are available yet.
Some other websites which may help you are:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/
The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx
Family Search: https://familysearch.org/
I hope that this helps!

Hello again, Emma! This one is a real mystery. I know that John Sheil was Church of Ireland (he had 4 sones and 1 daughter, my grandmother) and he married a woman called Mary Barber. The family stories have been that Mary was a "Shaker". I thought they meant "Quaker" since there were more on these in Ireland, so I sent a query to someone at the Quaker Library and he indicated they had no Quakers on record called Barber. So then I thought maybe Shaker was correct...I researched a bit and founnd that they were centered mostly around Manchester and Lancashire in England, but this is as far as I have gotten.
John was probably born @ 1815-1820 and Mary probably during the same timeframe. I believe heir two oldest sons were born in Wexford, because I found a marrige record for one that indicates this.
So, I am once again trying to find any inforamtion on JOhn and Mary, besides just there names.
Thank you!
kind Regards,
Maribeth Nolan
