Good Morning! In your opinion, what would have happend to a single, unmarried woman in the 1860s in Duncormick? Without a husband, would she have ultimately ended up in a Workhouse, or would she have been able to live alone, and have a job, say as a seamstress or a domestic servant? I am unclear about society in the 1860s in Duncormick.Thank you for your time.

Hi hkftbl
Yes to all, she could have been a servant, or have another type of job but it is also possible she stayed at home to look after parents or other family members.
It was not uncommon a daughter stayed at home to help the parents
If the parents had a farm she might have helped out there, as Duncormick is a small rural village it is possible they were farmers.
Also some women got married much later in life
