My grandmother Mary Staunton was born in Carromore, Belmullet, County Mayo,  sept 1907.  Her parents are Anthony Staunton & Bridget McGuire.  I haven't any luck getting Anthony Staunton's parents.  I know he lived in Belmullet.  My grandmother lists him as her father and last residence on her passenger list sailing to NY.

  • There are a number of Anthony Staunton/Stantons in Belmullet in civil records on irishgenealogy.ie. Here is one of them:
    Anthony Stanton, Caramore, Belmulllet, b 1883
    Parents Patt, Catherine Heraghty
    Grandfather James Heraghty

    Your Anthony and Bridget had a child as early as 1901, so this Anthony would have been 18 then. Have a look at rootsireland; you should be able to find some records for your family.

    Here are the 1901 and 1911 census records for Anthony Staunton and Bridget McGuire. They must have married in 1900 but I could not locate a civil or church marriage record. Bridget's mother Nora was living with them. From the 1911 census record, Anthony and Bridget were born around 1871-1872.

    I searched on the subscription site Roots Ireland and the closest Anthony Staunton baptismal record in Belmullet was October 13, 1867 with father Pat and mother Bridget Munnelly. 

    There are five Bridget McGuire baptismal records in Belmullet from 1869-1874 on Roots Ireland. None show a mother with the name Honor, Honoria or Nora. The closest was an 1874 record The closest was a January 21, 1874 record in Carrowmore with father Pat and mother Anne McNally.

    Thank you so very much for the replies.  I will look into your suggestions.  My grandmother's sisters names, may help me, since daughters where ofter named after relatives.

    Bridget Beatrice Agnes Stauton born 1902  (Mother's Mothers name Bridget). Bridget Munnelly?

    Honour (Nora) Staunton Born 1903 married Michael Heraghty Belmullet Feb 9,1924  (Fathers Mother name Honour)?

    Ellen Josephine Staunton Born `1906 ( Named after mother?)

    Catherine Josephine Staunton 1908 (Named after mother's older sister)

    Annie Stautnon Born  1909 (Named after mothers 2nd olderest sister)

    Rose Staunton Born 1919 Married Petrer Reilly July 1935
