WHello, I am new to this site and was wondering if anyone had any information on the Sullivan's from Rossnacaheragh? I believe that this may be where all my family on my paternal side originated. It appears that they all emigrated in the 1870's Seems funny they made it through the worst of famine times and left a generation later.

My wife and I visited the area for a couple days this past summer. We were told that Martin O'Sullivan inherited the old farmhouse but was rarfely there. It was Suggested that we visit his Dad Jimmy in Durrus, We went by Jimmy's house but could not find him.

We went to see the old Arundel Aunties who maintain the Church in Rossncaheragh next to the school. They were sweet as pie. But were not able to shed any light on our history. They also suggested talking to Jimmy.

We asked about at the Tin Pub and Arundel's. (There may be a relation by marrige to the Arundel's) We met Tommy the fisherman, not of the Pub Arundel's (So he has to pay for his pints:-)  There may be some Twohigs in our tree and Tommy told me that his gran was a Twohig, but he had to run before we could get very far in the conversation.

Love to hear from anyone with some knowledge on families from this area.

Kind Regards,

Andrew Sullivan

  • Thanks Roger, I will keep my eyes open. I have a lot of info on the ancestry of my family but some of it may be suspect... so trying to get to the bottom of things...

  • Martin,

Thank you for your reply! I have been communicating back and forth with Danny Tobin and plan to come out to Kilcrohane next May (19th I think) for the Sheepshead reunion with a Sullivan focus. You can always contract me directly at....  atsullivan0@gmail.com  I would love to share a bit about what the Sheepshead Sullivan's got up to once arriving on these shores. Our Sullivan's all moved to Lincoln Rhode Island putting up 5 multi family homes all on the same block!

Are you on facebook? I only joined it a few years back to research my Dad's WWII unit in China. A web site run by a couple old veterans migrated to Facebook so I signed up. Until recently that was all I did.

Then Danny Tobin contacted me and I joined his FB page.... Sheepshead Genealogy and DNA Group. From there I joined a few more Ireland genealogy groups.  Do you have a GEDMatch?

    Hope to hear back soon,

    Tim Sullivan

  • Hello,

I have been looking for the Sheepshead Genealogy and DNA Group on Facebook but no luck.  My maiden name is McKelvey but paternal grandmother is Donovan and maternal great grandmother is O'Donovan (Sullivan and Twohig in that line)  They are in County Cork.  I want to rent a house in area in 2021 so my children and I can do some research.  The McKelvey is scots-irish and somewhere in Northern Ireland.  I also have Brogan and O'Hara in my DNA.  Would appreciate any help you can give me.  Thanks, Maryellen McKelvey Bashioum
