Using Irelandxo I just learned that my greatgrandfather, James, son of a James, was probably baptized in 1823 in Shandr and ere married here.um, and that his future wife, Mary Hanagan was also baptized there in 1824. They came to the USA in about 1850 and were married here. Are there records in Ireland thatncouldgo back farther? Any help or advice would certainly be appreciated..

Catholic records for Shandrum parish start as early as 1793:
Perhaps you may be lucky and find some record of James parents, either a marriage record or possibly birth records if they were from the area. Most Catholic records are held locally so it may be a good idea to write to the local parish priest for possible assistance. Also, as you can see from the link above Mallow Heritage Centre have some records available online,a although you have to pay to view these. Here is their email address:

Most surviving Church of Ireland records are still held by the local clergy, although some are in the National Archives of Ireland and others are in the Representative Church Body Library in Dublin. Here are their websites: http://www.nationalarchives.ie/ and http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42
Lists of these surviving registers can also be found at the National Library of Ireland.
