Just read your genealogy message. In relation to your ggmother Mary Agnes Corry, do you know what area of Ballinasloe she lived. There was Corry`s that lived in Fohenagh, near  Ballinasloe.

I will forward your message to our Loughrea and Ballinasloe volunteers and when I recieve information,I will forward same to you.

First thing - I've noticed I made a mistake in my post ie Cornelius SUPPLE's wife -it should have read Bridgid (Stapleton) SUPPLE !

As to the CORRYs ;

Mary Agnes(SUPPLE) married Patrick CORRY in 1885 . The marriage cert states that Patrick was living in Loughrea and Mary Agnes in Killane at the time and that they were married in Fohenagh.

Patrick's occupation 'professor' and May Agnes a teacher

I managed to find where they were in 1901 census  - River Street, Ballinasloe and 1911 in Townparks, Ballinasloe.

They had 6 children ( as far as I can ascertain). Three of them (at least) moved to London, one becoming a Mother General at a Sisters of Mercy Convent in Marylebone.

Just had a telephone call from one of our volunteers in Fohenagh. He had a look at the registery book and he can

Confirm that marriage took place in 18th of april 1885 in Fohenagh (Fohena).

Mary Supple is down as a teacher. Teacher in Fohenagh

His (husband)address is Loughrea

Witness are: John Dolan and Mylo Supple (? brother)

Baptism`s book in Ballinasloe should give you information on their children.

Paula Thanks for getting back to me . It's good to have some of the information I have confirmed. I do have a copy of the marriage certificate but it has their witnesses as John Tully and Kate Supple ( possibly her sister Catherine). If the info supplied by your volunteer colleague is right it looks as if there is at least one more sibling I didn't know about. Mary appears to have been living in Killane at the  time of her marriage. It could either be Killane Co. Westmeath or Killane, Co.Offally( as they are both fairly close to Ballinasloe) but will assume it's not Killane Co.Cork, although coincidentally har father Cornelius was born in Cork !! I'll visit the church in Ballinasloe in the summer - is St. Michael's the only RC church in the town do you know?? I do wish it was easier to research family history in Ireland from England!!! Thanks againBest wishesLinda nb Tried emailing this to you but got booted back

If it is the same Cornelius Supple, there was a reported assination attempt on RIC policeman Cornelius Supple on 16 January 1871 near the Church wall in Raharney, Co. Westmeath. He was shot 3 times on the cheek and nose but survived. The assasin escaped but was identified as Laurence Bray, but he was later aquitted of the crime. Check out the Return of Outrages from 1971 for further details (attached jpeg) also newspaper articles exist concerning the case.

Thanks for your response after all this time. I  actually came across the incident in which  Cornelius was involved in the newsapaper of the time. However I had not seen this item from ' Return of Outrages'. I've never heard of this , are they court returns ??
