My GG Grandfather, Thomas Delaney and his wife Mary (whose bith name was Arnot according to hier son'e marriage certificate or Cummings according to her son's death certificate) were from Laois.  They had several children in Ireland, John, 1843, Patrick 1845, Mary 1846, Michael 1851,  Their next child was born in Corning New York so they must have emigrated 1852-1854.  Any information on their mariage, births, baptisms, or emigration greeatly appreciated.  I will be in Ireland in Spetember woudl like to have information by then. Thank you so much.

  • No, that is what I am trying to find out.  Mary's 1880 census entry says she is from Queen's County and that is all I have to go on.

  • Dear Shawn:

I would concur with Miriam that if you get a copy of Mary's death certificate, it might give you more information.  I too have had a look on the Roots Ireland database which lists many parish registers (but not all).  The only possible famlily that I see with a John (1843), Mary (1845) and Michael (1851) is a family in Clough parish in County Kilkenny.  This parish is on the county border with Laois (Queen's County).  There isn't any Patrick noted for this family.  The names of the parents are Thomas Delaney and Mary Brenan  ---which is definitely not close to Arnot or Cummings.  You would really need to get a death certificate for Mary to see if parents' names are given.

Please contact me directly at:  jhalloranryan@irelandxo.com about your trip details as we can arrange to have a volunteer meet you to assist if you wish.

    Kind regards,

    Jane
