Thomas Fleming was born in county Fermanagh in approx 1825. His father was Thomas and mother Mary Courtney. They were both farmers. A son of Thomas visited the family in 1918 on leave from the great war, and this may still be remembered by decendents still in the area. I do not have a better address of where family farmed.

There are very few records for Fermanagh for the early 1800s. Fleming is also a fairly common surname in the county with around 32 listed in Griffiths Valuation of 1862. If Thomas senior was still alive in 1862 you would expect him to be listed in Griffiths. There was a Thomas in Bannagh More, parish of Drumkeeran. He had a labourers house, so not a farmer. There was another in Derrymacrow (parish of Galloon). He had a 42 acre farm. There was another in Killard (Galloon). He also had a farm. Plus one in Kilturk West (Galloon). Another farmer. So that points to your family being from Galloon.

Looking at the 1901 census of Fermanagh, there were 78 people named Fleming. All were Church of Ireland, save for some Methodists (who would originally have also been Church of Ireland in the early 1800s.). Galloon Church of Ireland records start in 1798. The records have been transcribed and looking at them I see a baptism for Thomas Fleming on 14th Jan 1821, to the parents you have named. So your family does come from Galloon.

If you go through those records you may find some siblings, plus perhaps the parents marriage and burials. I looked at the actual baptismal entry and the family were living in the townland of Derrymacrow:

Here’s Thomas (senior) in the tithe applotment records for 1834:

There was still a Thomas Fleming farming there in 1901:

The above Thomas married Eliza Jane Jermyn (widow) on 17.10.1884 at Sallaghy Church of Ireland. He was a carpenter from Kilturk and she was from Derrymacrow. Her maiden name had been Fleming and her father was Henry Fleming.

And in 1911:

Looking at Griffiths Valuation in more detail, in 1862 there were 5 Fleming farms in Derrymacrow. Hugh had plot 1 which was a 42 acre farm, Henry had plot 4 40 acres, James had plot 5 (19 acres and no house, so he was living with one of the others), Thomas junior had plot 6 which was 17 acres and Thomas senior had plot 7, 16 acres. By 1901 there was only the one farm so some selling or consolidating had taken place over the years. If you go through the Valuation Revision records on the PRONI website, you can see what happened to each property up to 1929. Derrymacrow is very close to Crom Castle, near Newtownbutler. https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/crom
