I have been researching my Mulvey ancestors for the past 20 yrs. Thomas Mulvey b.1820 (+/-) was married to a Catherine Golden/Golding b 1825(+/-). They had 6 children born in Ireland prior to immigranting in 1850? to America. The children listed in Thomas' will (d 10 Oct 1890 in Easthampton,MA) were: Peter b.1841, Philip b.1846, Mary b.1851, James b 1857, Delia b 1862 and Anna b 1863. All settled in Massachusetts, in and around Springfield except for my great-grandfather James who settled in Geneva NY. He was a molder, married a Catherine Danahy in 1885 and raised 9 children.
Thomas and Catherine were listed on several of the death certificates of their children and birth dates varied on the US Census. County Roscommon (as well as Leitrim) comes up several times in census and on family info but no definite parish.
I am hoping for any information regarding this branch of my family: where they lived, birth dates, and any ancestors of Thomas and Catherine.
Thanks in advance for any help and information

AFH:
I've been searching the subscription site Roots Ireland and so far have not identified any good leads in either Co. Roscommon or Co. Leitrim. It would appear that the church where the children were baptized no longer has records back to the 1840s/1850s. No marriage record either.
Do you know for sure when they left Ireland?
Civil registration of births started in 1864.
There are five Griffiths Valuation head of household listings from the mid 1850s for a Thomas Mulvey (3 in Roscommon and 2 in Leitrim). We don't know for sure if Thomas was leasing a large enough plot to be captured in the Griffiths.

Thanks for your help on this and so quickly. According to Thomas' death certificate; his parents were Patrick and Margaret. That's all I know or have been able to find out. I have some info stating Thomas had land, leased of course but don't know how big or where or if that's true
Dates of immigration are all over the board from federal census records. Siblings listed everything from 1850 to 1860+ , just like dates of birth. I am not sure but think the family came over in 2 waves, maybe some of the older siblings first then the rest of the family.
Again thanks for what you were able to find. If I get any more information, I'll pass it along. Good hunting.

Hi Arlene,
Just a comment about death certificates. The parents' names were supplied by a third party and written down by a third party. Thomas obviously could not have supplied the information himself. In genealogy, we sometimes see the wrong names supplied for the parents on death records. The person supplying them didn't have the right information, was grieving, was mistaken, etc. So, it's possible Patrick and Margaret are not the correct names.
