  • Margaret:

Clashmore and Kinsalebeg are civil parishes which border each other in southwest Co. Waterford not far from the Co. Cork border. So likely Anne was from that area. I was unable to locate a baptismal record for Anne in Co. Waterford on the subscription site Roots Ireland.

  • Margaret,

There are records of a number of a Thomas Stack in the BritishArmy. One Thomas Stack was born in Clashmore, Co. Waterford which is a short distance East of the town of Youghal in County Cork. He was born c1795 and retired in 1842.

  • You can ask GRO Southport, England to search for an overseas birth for your ancestor born in Poona.

    https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/contact_us.asp

Birth certificates only began in England in 1837 but prior to that some military units kept overseas birth records as far back as 1761 so you might get lucky. This is what the GRO website says they hold for overseas events:

    Records held for overseas events

Births, marriages and deaths registered by the British Forces and the British Consul or High Commission in the country where they took place, from 1849.

Deaths that occurred in the Boer War and both World Wars, and British Army Regimental records of births, baptisms and marriages, dating back to 1761.

Marine Births and Deaths, from 1837, which took place on British registered vessels.

Aircraft Births and Deaths, from 1948, which took place on British registered aircraft.

Civil Partnerships formed and registered by the British Armed Forces and the British Consul in the country where they took place, from 2005.

  • Margaret,

Attached record of the baptism of a Richard Thomas Stack in Athlone, Co. Westmeath in November 1840. Left hand page - No. 13.

Could he be a sibling to your Charles Henry Stack?

Do you know the years of birth and death of Charles Henry?

  • Margaret,

In relation to Thomas Stack, I make the following comments:

Thomas Stack married Anne Griffin in the Diocese of Cloyne, Co. Cork in 1837 - Parents names not recorded,

Birth of a Richard Thomas Stack in Athlone in November 1840 - Parents Thomas Stack and Anne Griffin. Over the surname "Stack" are initials which appear to "be RG and Ch". Page 258 Parish Register. Could those initials refer to the Cheshire Regiment? List of Overseas events for 1840 records a "Thomas Stack" in Athlone in 1840 which appears to be the birth of Richard Thomas Stack.

1841: record of a Thomas Stack, Colour Sergeant, 22nd Regiment of Foot being in Poona, India.

I851: Thomas Stack, Lieutenant in 22nd Regt. (Cheshires)

Is this the same man who married Anne Griffin in 1837?

What is your connection to South Africa?  Was Thomas Stack transferred to there?

In relation to the death of Anne Stack in 1861. Do you have any confirmation that this was "Anne Griffin Stack" i.e Death Record

Any knowledge of the death of Thomas Stack, 22nd Regt. of Foot?

Please excuse the manner of this Post which is intended ti identify tour
