Thomas Z.Conolly or Connelly born in 1811 in County Kildare.

Hello,

As I imagine you know, Connelly is a very common name in Ireland.  Would you be able to provide more information?  What the Z stands for? Who/when he married? Names of his children, in order? When/where he died? His religion? Occupation? Etc.

Patricia:  The "Z" is for Zachariah.  Date of Birth is March 1, 1811.  His wife is Mary Clare Learney/Larney.  Children are Thomas, James Dominic (my great grandfather), George, Clara and Robert.  I believe all 
born in Dublin.  They ended up in Liverpool and Manchester and finally in the US.
James married Therese Hanlon in Dublin. James and Therese were printers and book binders as were the rest of the family.
Most ended up in Rochester, NY.  James ended up in Lincoln, Nebraska which is where my father was born.

PS.  I was raised Catholic.  My great grandparents were married in Dublin at St. Mary's Pro Cathedral so I assume my other family members were Catholic as well.

Also, James D. Connelly (I'll go with the current spelling) was a printer/ruler.  My grandfather, Thomas Connelly was a printer as was a few of his sons including my father.  They lived in Lincoln, Nebraska upon arrival in the US.  Why they picked Nebraska is beyond  me.  It is so different than Ireland. Very rough weather conditions in the 1870's.  Very cold and very hot.

James' brothers owned a printing company in Rochester, NY.

Are you sure Kildare is correct? Where was that information listed?

There is a tree for Thomas on Ancestry that gives his birth county as Galway--not that the tree is necessarily correct.

Patricia:  I'm not sure of anything.  I believe I went to Kildare as a possible home for the Connelly's because I saw there was a Thomas Z. Connelly there.  A distant cousin did a search years ago and identified a Thomas Z. Connelly as a possible relative.
