I have connections with the Toner families originally from Ballymcnab. One of the more prominent family members was James Toner (my Grandfather) who was a Solicitor who practised in English Street, Armagh. If you have any connections with any of the Toners I would love to hear from you.

Hello Leagle,
I am not connected with the Toner family but found the Ballymacnab, Armagh birth record for the James Toner who may have been your grandfather. I also located the Ballymacnab birth records for several of his brothers and sisters. Their father was Arthur Toner. If you do not have these records I can send them to you sometime this week, by next weekend at the latest if my work schedule allows. If I hear back from you this coming week I'll also see if I can find the baptism records for the Toner children. Can you confirm that your grandfather James's father was Arthur and that the family was Catholic?
Best Wishes,
Dave Boylan

Hello Dave and thanks for your reply. Yes - James Toner born Ballymacnab was my Grandfather and I do have all of the information for his father Arthur and I believe all of his siblings. I have the basic infiormation for most of the Toner Clan - i.e. births, deaths and baptisms from the Catholic Church at Ballymacnab. Yes they were all good Catholics in those days. I have been to Ballymacnab and have made contact with some of my distant cousins but I was hoping to actually make contact with a family member who is interested enough to share some more family facts and stories. so fat I haven't had that much luck.
I never knew my grandfather James as my parents emigrated here to New Zealand and James died soon after I was born. I have heard many tales about him as he and I share the same profession (by sheer coincidence). Thank you for your interest and if yo happen to know of any connections or can suggest any ways of establishing contact with any of the Toners I would love to hear more.
Regards,
Paul Gallagher.

You're welcome Paul, and many thanks for your quick reply. Have you submitted your Toner information to the Ireland Reaching Out XO Chronicles? The link for the XO Chronicles can be found at: https://www.irelandxo.com/ireland-xo/history-and-genealogy
From what I understand many people visit the XO Chronicles site, and it's possible that someone with knowledge of your particular Toner ancestors could possibly get in touch with you.
Good Luck with your search, and many thanks again for writing Paul.

On page 6/12 on the link you will see your grandfather - who is referred to as Jim and one of his brothers Fr Toner (he had two brothers who were priests) involved in "Dealing with a Lady Spy" in the early days of the Civil War in Ireland.

My dad was Pat Toner who was a solicitor and James' nephew who took over the practice in Armagh when he died. My daughter is studying Irish History (we live in Scotland) and I'd see this testimony from Patrick Beagan once before and when I went looking for it saw your post. I think went to Patrick's house once as a child with dad and as you would imagine he had plenty of stories

Hello Paul, I have some information regarding the Toner family. My grandfather Tom was your grandfather's older brother. I grew up in the house where they all grew up. My mother and her sister spent time in Belfast with your mother and her sister during the mid 1940s . Was your mother Maura or Betty?
